Opus Akoben

Le hip-hop que défend Opus Akoben est avant tout une arme. Une arme contre les poncifs figés et érigés par un milieu trop souvent renfermé sur lui-même.

 

Une arme forgée dans une vaste culture musicale et une revendication identitaire forte.

C’est à Washington D.C. qu’il faut se plonger pour retracer l’itinéraire des trois voix du groupe, Carl Walker (aka Kokayi), Terence Nicholson (aka Sub-Z) et Joshua Culbreath (aka Black Indian). En 1994, Toni Blackman et Monty Taft fondent la Freestyle Union, une sorte de workshop permanent dédié à " l’élévation de la rime ", où l’on bannit toute forme d’agression physique ou verbale.[...]
